How do I know if my snoring is a problem?

Many people snore – though not everyone sees it as something to be concerned about. Many people go their entire lives without seeking help for it – while others do everything possible to stop it.

Of course, nobody wants to overreact if the problem isn’t really a ‘problem’ – but you also don’t want to let it go if it could potentially cause complications in your life.

So with these ideas in mind, how can you know for sure that your snoring dilemma is indeed a real ‘problem’ that you should think about solving?

This is a fantastic question, and in this article we’re going to discuss some warning signs to look out for. If you end up experiencing one or more of these at any point in your life, then the odds are good that seeking a solution to your snoring problem would be a good idea.


Your partner complains about it

If your snoring prompts complaints from your partner, then you should definitely think about looking for a solution. There are several good reasons for this.

First of all, if your snoring is impacting the sleep quality of your partner, then you owe it to them to find a way to make it better. Nobody wants their partner to be unhappy – and snoring can definitely cause unhappiness – especially if your spouse or significant other needs to work in the morning and can’t get enough sleep because of all the noise.

Secondly, you owe it to yourself so that the snoring problem in-general doesn’t impact your relationship. Snoring might not be something that you can inherently control – but it is a problem that you can find a solution for. If you can find a way to remove this stressor, then your relationship might get better as a result – and that would be a good thing!


You experience sleeping problems of your own

If your snoring is causing you any kind of sleeping problems, then it’s time to find a solution. Some of the first signs of this could be fatigue during the day, a restless night’s sleep, a cloudy-brain, etc. These are all signs that you didn’t sleep well, and snoring can definitely cause them. And if you have sleep apnea, they might be even worse – so it’s very important that you do what you can to resolve it.

At first, you may not notice if your snoring is effecting your sleep. But after a while, it might get easier to realize that it’s waking you up at night or otherwise causing you problems.


You begin experiencing symptoms of fatigue during the day that interfere with your normal routine

This symptom really goes hand in hand with the one we just discussed – but it’s worth mentioning in a more specific sense as well. If you’re trying to decide whether or not snoring is having an impact on your overall well-being, try to think about how things are different now than they used to be. Have you been more tired recently? Have you been having problems saying awake while driving or riding the bus? Do you often feel like taking naps when you used to be full of energy and ready to go?

It might not take long for such feelings of sleepiness to really permeate your day, and you might even find yourself taking on extra habits in an attempt to balance them out. You might drink more coffee, buy more energy drinks, or fall asleep watching tv more often than you used to.

Snoring is a weird thing because we don’t usually think of it as a ‘serious problem’. It usually seems like more of a nuisance and something that most people can probably live with.
