Mediflow Waterbase Pillow Review

This product is a bit different from the types of products that we usually review, mostly because it’s not necessarily a ‘stop snoring’ device. It is, however, in the sleep-aid category, so we were certainly excited to figure out what it was all about.

I’ve heard about this product a few different times now – mostly through online reviews and via word-of-mouth. But I had never taken a real up-close look at it, so I will admit that I was pretty excited to see if it really lives up to the hype.

So here’s what my research turned up about the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow.

Product Details

The Mediflow Waterbase Pillow is said to help ‘Restore your energy, freshen your appearance, and soothe daily stress.’

On the official website, the company says this about it…

“The Mediflow® Waterbase® water pillow has been ranked the top bed pillow over all others for improving the quality of your sleep. This state-of-the-art therapeutic pillow has been clinically tested, and it was proven to be the best neck support pillow to reduce neck pain!”

This pillow is said to be an ‘orthopedic’ product that will greatly improve your quality of sleep.

Information! It’s said to have a hypoallergenic fiber filling, which is healthy for the lungs, skin, and for those who are sensitive to allergens – and also sports a self-fillable water pouch. This allows you to adjust the water-level to suit your personal tastes.

According to the website, over 2 million people have already tried the pillow – and so far, it seems that the majority of people are happy with it.

Another thing that I was happy to see is that Mediflow actually offers a 1-year warranty for manufacturing defects. If your pillow ends up being defective, then you can simply return it to the retailer you purchased it from, and they will give you a replacement.

You will, however, need to keep your receipt to make such an exchange – so make sure to keep it on-hand if you end up buying this product!

Type

This product is technically a ‘sleep-aid pillow’. It’s not necessarily a stop-snoring device – though it could, in theory, help to prevent snoring by keeping your head and neck at a healthier angle.

Clinical Studies

You can actually view the clinical study conducted on this pillow here. In the study, the Mediflow Waterbase pillow was compared to the normal pillows used by the subjects, and a roll pillow.

According to the study, the water-based pillow was “…associated with reduced morning pain intensity, increased pain relief, and improved quality of sleep.”

You can look over the clinical trial data yourself, which is provided with plenty of information. I was impressed that it was so easy to find and understand. Kudos to Mediflow for making such information readily available.

Is This Product FDA Cleared?

This product does not seem to be FDA cleared, but neither is it required to be. The nature of the device seems to place it outside of the realm of products that would require FDA clearance.

Price

If you live in Australia, you can buy this product for AUD 55.60, and get it shipped for $9.99 – which is a pretty good deal, really. Obviously, this is a lot when you compare it to cheaper retail-store pillows, but this is obviously a special-case product. As a water-pillow, it doesn’t seem to be overpriced at all.

Mediflow Inc. has been in business since 1994. They have a pretty good reputation in the healthcare industry, and are probably most well-known for the Waterbase Pillow – which seems to be their greatest success to-date.

The fact that the clinical trials on this pillow were performed at the famous Johns Hopkins School of Medicine seems to have contributed to the pillow’s success. In 2006, the company began selling the pillows in the U.S., and they have sold very well ever since.

Here is Mediflow’s official business address…

Mediflow®  Inc. 5-39 Riviera Drive, Markham, Ontario L3R 8N4, Canada.

You can also contact them by phone at 800-308-3069.

As far as I can tell, this product is certainly not a scam. It might not always get the highest reviews from customers, but I’ve seen nothing to indicate that it’s not a legitimate product.

How Does The Product Work?

This product basically works by providing ‘soft comfort’ and ‘neck/spine support’ as you sleep. These factors are said to help contribute to a much better night’s sleep for the user.

How Mediflow Waterpillow works

What are actual customers saying?

Actual customers seem to be saying mostly good things about the pillow. On Amazon.com, the vast majority of reviews have 5 stars – with only 10% being 1 star. Here are a few examples of reviews that I’ve seen for the pillow – all of them found here, on Amazon.com.

“After buying dozens of different types of pillows and spending tons of money, I finally found a pillow that finally does what it claims…”

“These are hands down, the most awesome pillows, we have ever owned…”

“This pillow has a gimmick. That gimmick is to try and use a water bladder inside to add a firm bottom to an otherwise soft and puffy pillow, but with at least some “give” for the purposes of comfort…”

What you can expect

As it turns out, this pillow tends to work well for the vast majority of people who purchase it. If you buy one, you should expect to spend a few nights getting used to sleeping with it. But after that, you should start to see an overall improvement in your quality of sleep.

Does this brand stack up against the competition?

Yes, this brand certainly seems to stack up against the competition. It’s a bit different than other water-based pillows, because it allows you to fill it to whatever level feels right for you. It’s also undergone a pretty legitimate clinical trial, which impressed me.

Key differences between this product and ‘typical’ solutions

The main difference between this product and other ‘typical’ stop snoring or sleep aid pillows is probably the fact that this pillow has undergone such a legitimate clinical trial.

Is a prescription or doctor involvement needed?

No, you don’t need a prescription or a doctor’s involvement to buy or use this product.

Pros and cons

Here are the basic pros and cons that we discovered over the course of researching this review.

Pros

  • This pillow has outstanding customer reviews
  • It really seems to work
  • It comes with a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty
  • It’s soft on the outside, but also allows you to custom-fill the inside to suit your personal preferences
  • The company is legitimate and trustworthy

Cons

  • Some people have said that it’s just an over-priced pillow
  • It doesn’t really help to keep you from snoring
  • The price is higher than you would expect to pay for a normal pillow – so if it doesn’t work for you, you’ll be out-of-pocket a bit

Conclusion

In the end, I was impressed with this product. It might not work for everyone, but it seems to do what it was designed to do pretty well. If you’re in the market for a sleep-aid pillow, and want something that will most likely improve your quality of sleep, then we would certainly recommend that you try the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow.
